Formerly known as Prince Heinrich Beach Hotel, which was built in 1903, Sun Yat-sen was the most famous person who had stayed. The building presents the characteristics of German medieval residential decoration, with three floors above the ground and one floor below the ground, brick and wood structure, red brick clear water wall, white ash pointing, red tile slope top, concave plane, symmetrical layout, the gate is in the middle, each floor has a spacious hanging corridor, all facing the sea.
Whether it’s the plane or the facade, or the structure and decoration, this building has enough details to perform the lighting. At the beginning, we also tried to do the effect simulation according to this idea, and the results are very beautiful, but we can’t find the thick sense of history. Gradually, we understand that the depth of history should not be clear. So we adjusted the design strategy, only considered the middle and both sides of the building to be moderately illuminated and reflected, and the rest remained in the shadow, so that the night image of the whole building had a dramatic relationship, light and shadow told a historical story of more than 100 years.
Because the object is the national cultural protection unit, there is another difficulty, that is, there is no way to lay wires on the building, which has become a very headache at the beginning, because many design and simulation effects can not be achieved. However, with the change of design strategy mentioned above, this has become the advantage of lighting performance, because the use of remote projection outside the building makes us have greater flexibility in determining the lighting point position, and such lighting mode always can get surprising shadow, which fully proves our idea.
After a hundred years, the architecture is as rich and profound as human beings. Light is a guide here, so we can have a glimpse of the past.
